Reading Reaction #3

Hello Dear Students,
As the course is coming to an end, I would like you to reflect on one of the two last readings.  Select the one that you considered it was most interesting and answer the following questions:
1.  Why is it the most interesting reading of the two final readings?
2.  Did you learn something new?  What was it?
3.  Write something from the article that you would like to share with other teachers.

That's all for now,
Prof. Eva

  1. Classroom Practice: Communicative Skill – Building Tasks in CALL Environments
After reading these two documents, I select this chapter because it provides teachers ways to integrate technology using the four English Language skills. Besides, give them specific types of software for engage technology effectively in the classrooms.
It is important to know as English teacher that we have to use a variety of methods in order to offer learners the opportunity to interact with technology and giving them a meaningful learning.
I would like to share with other teacher from this article the following part, “Teaching listening skill with technology through the use of internet. It is the most authentic computer-aided task for listening. Teachers can ask students to listen to the news, tell their classmates what they hear, and perhaps discuss some of the stories. The advantages of use it is that, student can save it (and find it again) easily for later playback.

  2. Classroom Practice:
Communicative skill-building tasks in CALL environment

In my personal opinion this article was interesting because it talked to us about the importance of incorporating communicative skills as our goal as teacher taking in account all the resources that the environment gives to us and also the new technological aids available for a better learning experiences or a motivational tool for the students.
Nowadays, in the internet we can found bunch of web pages that can help the students to improve and developing skills such as listening, writing, speaking; even reading in which cover an important part for learning and comprehension but actually most of our students do not like to read so it can be the opportunity to create and develop learning looking for strategies to make easy and interesting this.
I would like to share with teacher my idea of it is time of the INNOVATION for our good and our students who are acquiring by themselves technological knowledge that we can used as a resource to apply in our classrooms and create a good atmosphere to work in our task as teachers and students.

  4. Something I’ve learned about chapter nine and the topic Communicative Skill-Building Task in CALL environment, is that with the use of technology, I can help my students to improve different skills like reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar en vocabulary, using different communicative skill-building activities in the lab, to motive them to practice the target language but to keep them focus on the communicative goal. As we know the use of these types of activities help our students to improve reading speed and comprehension and other skills to perform different tasks. I have the opportunity to use the technology in my classes and this is what I’m doing right now in my job, applying different activities where my students are able to use the technology and I’ve noticed that they are improving reading writing and speaking very fast and the lack of vocabulary they had at the beginning of the course is decreasing day by day. My students have the opportunity to use the equipment we have in the UTP University as head projectors or multimedia, laptops and other tools as computer software’s that are helpful for their presentations (speech) assignments or lab works as PowerPoint presentations and they feel happy when they design and create their own presentations. They also have access to a software that is online where they can do different activities like, listen and read to the conversations, write about the conversations, watch the videos and record their own voices and listen what they have recorded, write about the different topics, complete different practices for the different skills and evaluate their progress or knowledge of the different unit topics with a final test. They have access to the internet to do activities online, look for information and many other things that are helpful for their learning. I think that the technology is the greatest tool I’ve known to teach and learn a foreign or second language.

Classroom Practice: Enhancing and Extending Learning Styles Through Computers
Reading this article I confirmed my thoughts about teacher’s responsibility on facilitating and assessing the process of learning so that students can work towards their learning achievements.
This article helped me expands my knowledge on different means and models of language learning that can be used to help learners find and develop the best approaches for them. Some of these are through the use of information organizers, software for different learning styles, and others activities such role-play to promote cooperative learning, etc.
The fact that there are a lot of different ways for students to work alone or in groups to become more successful learners using technology is evident; this translates in that teachers need to up date and create opportunities for students to take responsibility and enhance their own learning.
